Eagerly awaited debut solo venture from “tall” (The Guardian), Welsh, London based songwriter George “GN” Nicholls of critically acclaimed pop groups Joanna Gruesome (admired by Pitchfork, New York Times), The Tubs and SUEP (featuring members of Porridge Radio).
“Home Business” is a relentless avant-pop groove which explores mindless Canary Wharfian ambition, the neoliberal work ethic and the experience of wanting everything yet feeling absolutely nothing. Boasting an intricate, danceable rhythm section, shimmering guitars and an onslaught of no-nonsense vocal hooks, Home Business spans everything from Yacht Rock to New York No-Wave to Arthur Russell and The Allman Brothers in just under three minutes.
In “Own Time”, GN seeks to retire from the office and manifest the good life as soon as physically possible with a private lighthouse, a dog and endless decorating as mandatory features of said lifestyle. Inspired only by The Sundays, Level 42 and the concept of the twin guitar solo, “Own Time” is a whirlwind of after-work domestic brooding, percussive basslines and dual Les Pauls.
Recorded with super producer Matt Green, mixed by Kristian Smith of “The Magic Gang” and with artwork by James Vinciguerra, the “Home Business” 7” is the latest solid gold pop release from Prefect Records.
